History:

Nettlekit:
Nettlekit shivered in the leafbare chill, huddling up to Berrykit and Hollyfur for what little warmth she could share.
"Hollyfur, Berrykit's whiskers are icy!" She wailed, nudging her brother aside. Berrykit squeaked and shoved her back, his tiny pin-prick claws catching her ear. "Now he's scratching me!"
"Hush, little ones." Hollyfur sighed. "Be nice to your brother, Nettlekit."
"But-" She began, but was cut off as her mother silenced her with a glare. "It's not fair." She muttered under her breath.

When Nettlekit awoke the next morning, Berrykit was already wide awake.
"Webclaw's coming to see us today!" He mewed cheerfully.
Nettlekit ached from a night of being kicked by Berrykit, but instantly brightened up at the thought of finally meeting her father. It had been nearly 5 moons, but yet the two kits had never met their father. Hollyfur padded over to her two kits, lapping at Berrykit's dark brown fur. Nettlekit took it upon herself to smooth down her fluffy tortoiseshell pelt.
"Hollyfur?" She mewed, pausing mid-lick.
"Yes my love?" The pretty black she-cat mewed, not looking up from her son.
"Why is my fur orange and Berrykit's isn't?" She squeaked, frowning at her bi-coloured paws.
Hollyfur paused. "Not all kittens look the same, Nettlekit."
"Webclaw!" Berrykit screeched, interrupting. He bounded over to the tabby tom that had entered the nursery, undetected by Nettlekit until her brother had noticed.
The tom, her father, dropped a mouse on the floor for his kits, before greeting his mate. He barely glanced at Nettlekit. While Berrykit was playing with the mouse, Nettlekit did her best to fluff out her pelt to make herself look bigger and stronger. In a moon and a bit, she would be an apprentice. She hoped Webclaw would be her mentor!
"How's my little warrior then?" Webclaw mewed, padding up to Nettlekit. Before she could respond, the tom kept walking until he reached Berrykit.
"Hollyfur says I'm getting bigger and bigger by the day, and I'll be a warrior in no time! Watch this!" Berrykit mewed happily, practicing a hunting crouch he'd seen the apprentices doing before. His tail lashed against the ground, kicking up the leaves he'd been hunting before.
"Hey Webclaw, watch this!" Nettlekit squeaked loudly, dropping into her best hunting crouch and creeping up on her father's tail. The tom didn't even turn when she spoke, so she gave up and padded miserably back to her nest.
When she woke up, Webclaw had gone and her mother and littermate were playing. She yawned, stretched, and went to join them.
"Hollyfur?" She said sleepily. "Why doesn't Webclaw like me?"
"Because I'm going to be the best warrior ever!" Berrykit mewed, launching himself at his sister before Hollyfur could respond.
"Hey, that's not fair! Why can't I be the best?" Nettlekit wailed, shoving her brother away.
"Shh, you can both be the best warriors in the Clan." Hollyfur sighed, smoothing down her ruffled fur.
"But there can only be-" Nettlekit began, but was once again cut off by her mother.

Nettlepaw:
"Berrypaw! Nettlepaw! Berrypaw! Nettlepaw!"
Nettlepaw felt her fur stand on end as the Clan chanted her new name. At least they like me, even if Webclaw doesn't!
Webclaw had requested to be Berrypaw's mentor, and she was given Coldbreeze; an aging senior warrior she-cat.

Several moons later, she was training with Berrypaw. The littermates scuffled until she had him pinned, looking up to Webclaw and Coldbreeze for praise while her brother struggled beneath her.
"Well done, Nettlepaw!" Coldbreeze purred.
"Get your claws out of Berrypaw's fur, Nettlepaw. You're hurting him." Webclaw growled. He flicked his tail and turned away. "I think we should head back to camp now."
"Webclaw, wait!" Nettlepaw shouted, racing after him until she caught up. "Do you mind if we talk?"
The warrior grunted and nodded his head. "What is it?" He meowed, turning his head to keep an eye on Berrypaw as his son padded back to camp with Coldbreeze.
"Why... Why don't you love me the same way you love Berrypaw?" She mewed quietly, awkwardly scuffling her paws and regretting her decision to talk to her father.
Webclaw narrowed his eyes. "Because Berrypaw is my son."
Nettlepaw frowned. "But he's my brother, and I'm your daughter! Any cat knows it's true, we were born together!" She wailed.
"Stop whining, you're not a kit anymore Nettlepaw." Webclaw sighed, rolling his eyes.
"All I've ever wanted is to make you proud! Why is that still not enough?" She cried, storming away from him and away from camp, her tail lashing furiously.

Nettlepaw sat on her own, staring at the horizon for what seemed like an eternity before Hollyfur appeared behind her.
"Everyone's looking for you, Nettlepaw." Her mother mewed gently.
"I bet Webclaw's not." She hissed.
"Why don't you come back to camp? Berrypaw's worried." Hollyfur soothed, sitting down next to her daughter.
"You know why Webclaw doesn't like me, don't you? Every cat looks at me in the same, knowing way." Nettlepaw sighed, holding back the sadness in her voice.
Hollyfur nodded sadly. "He's not your father." She whispered. "You and Berrypaw are still littermates, but Firewhisker was your father, Nettlepaw."
She'd heard of two kittens being born to the same mother but different fathers, and it was extremely rare to happen to littermates. Why me? "Where is Firewhisker?" She mewed after a while.
"He passed away before you were born. His fur was flame orange, like your patches. He was brave, loyal and respected by every cat. He was killed defending the camp from foxes while I was kitting." Hollyfur sighed, her voice brimming with sorrow.
"Why did no one tell me? You let me embarrass myself! Every cat in the Clan knows, and that's why Webclaw hates me. It's not fair." Nettlepaw hissed. "I'm still going to make Webclaw proud of me! Just you watch, I'll be the best warrior ever. Better than Berrypaw, better than Webclaw himself!"

Nettlefrost:
"Berrytail! Nettlefrost! Berrytail! Nettlefrost!"

In the morning after their vigil, Nettlefrost looked up to see Duskfall padding towards her. He'd been made a warrior around the same time Hollyfur died, but Nettlefrost had never spoken to him. He was arrogant, loud and outgoing. Every cat in the Clan loved Duskfall. His golden fur lit up in the dawn sunlight.
"Hey Nettlefrost. Do you want me to find you a nest in the warrior's den?" The golden tabby tom mewed, his amber eyes glowing.
She looked over at Berrytail, who had fallen asleep.
"It's okay, you can talk now. The dawn patrol's just leaving. I'm sure someone will wake Berrytail eventually." Duskfall said, his whiskers twitching in amusement. "Lightpelt fell asleep on her vigil, too. Come on, I'll show you the den!"
Nettlefrost picked herself up and padded after him into the warrior's den. It was warm from the cats still sleeping as they tip-toed between them. They came to an empty one.
"What about this one?" Nettlefrost mewed, flicking her tail at it. There was no cat scent on it.
Duskfall's tail drooped. He was heading for an empty space just near his own nest. "I thought Berrytail would like that one. It's next to Cherrywhisker's." He said.
Nettlefrost smiled. Her brother had been hanging around the pretty young warrior for a while. She trotted after Duskfall and settled down in the nest he had found.

When she woke up, the den was empty. Even Berrytail had gone, but the nest next to Cherrywhisker's smelled like he'd been there earlier. As soon as she padded out into the clearing, Duskfall came bounding over to her. She saw over his shoulder a group of warriors staring at them.
"Quick, follow me." He mewed, a playful look in his amber eyes.
He must have noticed them too. Nettlefrost thought as she followed Duskfall through the territory until they came to a secluded clearing. He hopped up onto a rock and stared down at her.
"Is this it?" Nettlefrost mewed, looking around.
"I just wanted to talk to you. Away from everyone else." Duskfall mewed, jumping down from the rock. He sat down in front of her. "So, tell me about yourself."
"Umm. Well, I thought every cat knew. I thought Webclaw was my father, but Hollyfur told me my father is actually Firewhisker. That's why Webclaw doesn-" Nettlefrost began.
"No, I mean about you. What's your favourite colour?" Duskfall meowed. "Mine's green."
"Oh." Nettlefrost smiled. "It's blue."
"Like your eyes?"
Nettlefrost blinked. "Maybe not that bright." She said. A yowl sounded from camp just as she spoke.
"I think your eyes are pretty." Duskfall said, before bolting off in the direction of the yowl.

A few moons later, cats were muttering behind Nettlefrost's back. When she went to ask Berrytail what was wrong with her, he sent her to the medicine den. She found out she was expecting kits.
"But I'm not a mother, I'm a warrior!" She wailed. "I can't do this!"
"It's okay. Cherrywhisker's moving to the nursery as well." Berrytail announced proudly.
Nettlefrost sighed, her eyes scanning the camp for Duskfall. She caught his eye and he came bounding over. "I've just heard!" He purred. A side glance from the tom sent Berrytail away. "How many?"
"I don't know, you stupid furball." She mewed, playfully batting his head with her forepaw. Although she was keeping optimistic, she didn't know how she would cope. Hollyfur had died before she'd recieved her own warrior name, Firewhisker had died before she'd been born and even Webclaw was gone; died fighting a badger in the camp a few moons prior. The badger was what interrupted her first meeting with Duskfall.

The nursery was quiet, except for the sound of Cherrywhisker snoring. Both of their kits would be due any time now. Her heart was pierced with sadness, Cherrywhisker would be raising her kits alone. Berrytail had been badly injured in a border battle, and died from his injuries a few sunrises later. Berrytail was the only kin she had left, and now she felt truly alone. At least I've still got Duskfall. She thought with a sigh. She curled her tail over her nose and closed her eyes, but as she was drifting off to sleep Cherrywhisker let out a cry.
"The kits!" Nettlefrost yowled. "I'll fetch Lightpelt!"
Lightpelt, Duskfall's sister, had become medicine cat when she realised fighting wasn't for her. Nettlefrost knew she could trust the pale tabby she-cat. She brought the medicine cat back to the nursery as Cherrywhisker wailed.

Two kits were born. Elmkit, a black tom, and Berrykit, a dark brown she-kit. Cherrywhisker had named Berrykit after the kits' father. The little kit looked just like Berrytail, while Elmkit looked like Cherrywhisker. Nettlefrost was glad the queen had named Berrykit after her brother. At least she had some kin in the Clan, now.

Two sunrises later, Nettlefrost felt her own kits coming. She gave birth to three healthy kits: Applekit; a small golden tom, Tigerkit; a black and orange she-kit and Frostkit; dark tabby tom with eyes like her own. Duskfall never left her side, playing with the kits from the second their eyes opened.

"Duskfall, come quickly! A group of rogues on our territory!" A voice sounded from outside the nursery. Nettlefrost woke with a start, and nudged her mate awake.
"I'll be back soon, kits." He mewed sleepily as Applekit, Tigerkit and Frostkit pounced on him.
Nettlefrost stared at him with worry. "Promise?"
"Promise." He purred, pressing his muzzle to hers. Without another word, he darted out of the nursery.

"Let me see him!" Nettlefrost yowled, her kits cowering behind her. She barged through the swarm of cats in the centre of the clearing. She collapsed to the ground, her legs numb and her mind spinning. In front of her lay the body of Duskfall. She let out a long, haunting wail as she pressed her muzzle into his cold flank. "You promised you'd come back. You promised, it's not fair!"
"Nettlefrost, can we play with Duskfall?" Tigerkit squeaked, bounding up to her father unaware.
"Get away from him!" Nettlefrost screeched, swiping a paw at her kit. She hissed as Tigerkit ran away in fear, followed by Applekit and Frostkit. "And the rest of you, get away from him!" She growled, unsheathing her claws and swiping at the air in front of her Clanmates. "I said get away!" When her Clanmates had gone to sleep and left her to sit vigil alone, she raised her head to the dark night sky and cried out. "What did I ever do, StarClan? Why do I deserve this?"

Nettlefrost moved back to the warrior's den, sleeping in Duskfall's old nest. She'd left Cherrywhisker to look after her kits, as her own; Elmkit and Berrykit, were now apprentices. Since the day Duskfall died, she hadn't spoken to her kits except telling them to get away from her. She wanted nothing to do with them. Cherrywhisker hadn't minded, especially as Frostkit reminded her of both Berrypaw and Berrytail. Leafbare came, and half of the Clan fell ill to whitecough.
Tigerkit, Frostkit and Applekit were only 5 moons old, and they caught the sickness as well as Cherrywhisker. It took Nettlefrost a while to realise that their whitecough had turned to greencough, and there was nothing Lightpelt could do for them now. The warrior entered the nursery for the first time since Duskfall's death. She saw her three kits lying in their nest, huddled together from cold. Applekit's pelt glowed like Duskfall's did. She padded quietly over and curled up next to them. Applekit sat up and looked at her. "Who are you?" He mewed, his voice weak.
"I'm your mother, little one. Shh, go to sleep now." She soothed, curling her tail around her kits.
"I want to play, but Frostkit and Tigerkit have been asleep for aaaages!" Applekit complained, breaking into a coughing fit at the end of his sentence.
Nettlefrost widened her eyes with alarm. "Tigerkit? Frostkit? Come on, time to wake up now!" She shook them both gently with her paw, but their bodies were cold as ice. "Cherrywhisker, get Lightpelt! Tigerkit and Frostkit aren't waking up!"

Two sunrises later, on the dawn of Applekit's apprentice ceremony, the little golden kit lay coughing in his nest. Nettlefrost curled her tail around him, trying to give him some of her warmth.
"I feel sleepy, Nettleffrost, but I've been asleep all day and night." Applekit croaked. "When can I get up and become an apprentice?"
"Shhh, rest more my little warrior. You'll be a warrior in no time."

Applekit's ceremony was delayed until he recovered from greencough. One night, while both he and Nettlefrost were sleeping, he let out a faint cry.
"Nettlefrost, I'm so cold." Hisvoice barely a whisper.
Nettlefrost could smell the sickness coming off of him in waves. He'd survived four sunrises, but no cat was sure if each day would be his last. He was getting weaker and weaker. "Sleep, my little warrior. When you wake up, you'll be big and strong like your father." She whispered.
"Who was my father?" Applekit croaked, curling up and pressing his small body against his mother's.
"He was a brave warrior. Big and strong, and you look just like him."
"When can I meet him?"
"Soon, my precious. Very soon."
Nettlefrost continued to talk to Applekit about his father until the kit lay still and quiet, and his breathing shallowed to nothing. Nettlefrost closed her eyes, numbed by the pain of losing every cat she cared about. When she opened her eyes a few heartbeats later, she saw a golden starry shape at the entrance to the nursery. The cat padded forward and pressed his muzzle to hers.
"It's okay my love, I will take care of our kits." The starry cat whispered.
Nettlefrost whimpered. "Oh Duskfall... I miss you."
"I will wait for you, Nettlefrost. I will wait as long as it takes until we're together again."
"Who are you?" Applekit mewed, an identical starry shape sitting next to the nest.
"I'm your father, Duskfall." He meowed gently.
"My father? Nettlefrost said I looked just like you!" Applekit purred, his voice no longer burdened by greencough.
Duskfall and Applekit padded out of the nursery together, lost in conversation until their voices trailed away and they were nothing but glittering stars in the sky.
